Sad day on Brian's passing - Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Brian Lewis Agensky, P. Eng., 1967-2012 The following was posted at Brian's workplace upon notice of his passing: Brian joined the former Ontario Realty Corporation (ORC) in 2002 as an Environmental Specialist and continued on at Ontario Infrastructure and Lands Corporation (IO). Brian had a very lively personality who enjoyed the spotlight and provided entertainment using his witty and sarcastic sense of humour. He once proudly displayed to his colleagues a video of his television appearance as one of the judges on the show called “Style By Jury”. You always knew when Brian was in the room. He had a charismatic presence and a voice that carried above others, but you wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of an argument with him. As much as he was known for his entertaining personality, he could also fiercely play devil’s advocate on any issue using his sharp logic and reason. He handily defended ORC’s position in a legal dispute over the Seaton Land Exchange deal in a manner that impressed even our seasoned external legal counsel at Fraser Milner Casgrain, which to this day they remember well. In his role as Acting Manager at IO for the Environment and Heritage group from 2010 to 2011, he was greatly admired for his caring attitude towards his staff and his astute leadership. He thoroughly enjoyed this role. We could see him smiling ear to ear every day. Even his mother-in-law told us how much he loved his job as a manager. Unfortunately, in August 2011 he was diagnosed with brain cancer and was on long-term disability leave until his untimely passing. On the morning of July 10, 2012, Brian passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his son Tristan 7, his daughter Lily 5, and his much adored wife Laura. He is dearly missed by everyone who knew him. May his soul now rest in peace knowing that he was so well loved and admired.

  1. I heard about Brian's passing last weekend from a mutual acquaintance in Chicago. It was a punch in the gut. I had not seen or spoken to Brian since college, back in the late 80's. However, I have very clear and fond memories of spending Friday nights during the high school years, listening to the same music over and over again (in our musical snobbery kind of preferences), watching "Friday Night Videos," playing hearts, and overall, just plain laughing our heads off. I LOVED making Brian laugh. When the Wagar 25th reunion came around a couple of years ago, I reflected on people I knew and cared about from that time. I wish I would have spoken to Brian, and heard his laugh. I made a brief attempt to search for him, Google-wise, but didn't come up with anything at the time.
My heart goes out to his family, wife, kids, parents, relatives, co-workers. I don't know any of you but I can feel your grief palpably in the obituary and in this blog.
    Take care

    1. Hi Ken, thank you so much for posting your memories of Brian here on this blog. Many of us who worked with him also enjoyed his laughter and his wry sense of humour. Our lives are all a little emptier without him around. Thank you for sharing and take care.
